Holy Week - While Social Distancing

I know this is a difficult time.  It's Holy Week - we should be celebrating Easter with our churches and our families.  But...we can't.  Does that mean that everything ends?  If we don't celebrate does the gift of this week and the culmination of the week cease to exist?

The holiday that is Easter was celebrated for many years silently.  Before there were barbecues and family gatherings there were dark caves and huddled refugees.  Today many of us are spoiled by the freedom of religion we experience and we are suddenly horrified that we have found ourselves displaced by what some consider to be "Big Brother".

Let me be clear - this is not a time for political differences.  This is not a time for us to air our grievances  or to be divided by silly notions of denominations or the like.  We are the church - not the building - not the act of meeting together - us.

The problem comes when we misunderstand the concept of meeting together.  Or maybe not a misunderstanding but rather a differing view of what it means to meet together.  You see, if we were to ask someone in their 20's what community is they would have a very different view than if you were to ask someone in their 50's.  I have a suspicion that neither of them would be wrong.

That 20 year old will probably tell you that meeting together is simply being with a group of people.  A 50 year old will probably tell you it's a physical gathering.  In today's world there isn't such a thing - right?  But guess what, technology exists that can help you get together.  It won't be physically but you can see friends and family and still social distance.

So, as we go into this holy time - be with friends.  Find help if you don't know how to do it - get someone to help you - younger people - help those who can't do it!  We need each other...don't give up - reach out!  Check out the page called Connect - hopefully it is helpful!

Help fight COVID-19! April 7th #HopeFromHome

I know this is a lot of information to get out and if I had thought about this earlier or been able to keep up the blog from years ago - this would reach much more!  Oh well...we can still help.

Content Creator Sean McLoughlin [Jacksepticeye] has setup a global initiative to fight COVID-19.  I'm sure I will receive some backlash from those who don't agree with Sean's content. However, his compassionate heart is what has drawn me to him.  Let's focus on that - he is using his platform for a good cause - please focus on that.

If you would like to donate toward me - please instead consider donating to this cause.  I have a full-time job teaching.  My family is well taken care of - but some people aren't that lucky.  Many people are suffering - people are dying - help if you can.
